The Heartwarming Return of an American Icon and…

A beloved restaurant chain is making a triumphant return after two decades of bankruptcy. The Ground Round, once a staple in American casual dining, is reopening its doors in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, marking its first new location in over 20 years.

The Ground Round’s Revival

Founded in 1969, The Ground Round became known for its family-friendly atmosphere, affordable menu, and signature features like complimentary popcorn and baseball-cap sundaes. At its peak, the chain had over 200 locations nationwide. Financial challenges led to bankruptcy in 2004, leaving just a few outlets remaining.

Local entrepreneurs Joseph and Nachi Shea have reopened the Shrewsbury location, aiming to honor the original concept while introducing modern updates to appeal to today’s diners.

What to Expect at the New Ground Round

The revamped Ground Round offers a contemporary dining experience while retaining the charm of its predecessor. Guests can enjoy updated décor, a refreshed menu featuring classic favorites, and the nostalgic touch of complimentary popcorn. A new mascot, “The Ground Round Hound,” has also been introduced to connect with patrons.

Looking Ahead

While the Shrewsbury location is currently the sole operating restaurant, the Sheas plan to expand the brand to other regions if the revival proves successful. The Ground Round’s return taps into a wave of nostalgia and the growing trend of retro brands making comebacks in the dining industry.
