A well-known neurologist has issued a serious warning that’s catching the attention of millions who rely on daily supplements for better health. According to the expert, three of the most commonly used over-the-counter supplements — often marketed as “natural brain boosters” — may actually be doing more harm than good.
The neurologist explained that while these supplements are often advertised as safe, they can interfere with the brain’s delicate chemical balance and cause side effects many people mistake for stress or fatigue. These include headaches, anxiety spikes, trouble sleeping, and even memory fog.
The first red flag is high-dose B6 — when taken in excess, it can lead to nerve damage and numbness in the hands and feet. The second is Ginkgo biloba, which, despite its popularity for memory support, can dangerously thin the blood and cause complications when mixed with other medications. And the third is synthetic melatonin, which, when overused, can disrupt the brain’s natural sleep rhythm and leave you more tired during the day.
Doctors emphasize that supplements should support the body, not replace a healthy lifestyle — and that “more” doesn’t always mean “better.”
Before adding anything new to your routine, experts strongly advise checking with your physician — because sometimes, what seems like a harmless gummy or capsule could silently be working against your brain’s long-term health.
