When Laura Hayes rushed her husband Mark to the hospital, she never imagined that a few red spots would unravel a nightmare no one could explain.
Dr. Reynolds, the attending physician, stood frozen for a few seconds after seeing Mark’s back — then barked, “Call the police immediately!” His nurse gasped.
Laura’s heart pounded. “What’s happening? What’s wrong with him?”
Dr. Reynolds didn’t answer at first. He leaned closer to inspect the lesions — the strange, red, raised circles running perfectly in rows down Mark’s back. Then he said quietly, “These aren’t natural. Someone did this.”
Laura felt dizzy. “What do you mean someone did this? They look like bites—”
He shook his head. “No. These are puncture marks — systematic, evenly spaced, and infected. Like someone injected or implanted something beneath the skin.”
Mark’s face went pale. “Implanted?”
The doctor nodded grimly. “This isn’t a rash or an allergy. I’ve seen something similar once before — in a trafficking case. The police need to see this.”
Within minutes, two officers entered the examination room. They questioned Laura and Mark, then took photos of his back. One of them whispered something to Dr. Reynolds, who nodded solemnly.
When the officers stepped outside, Laura grabbed the doctor’s sleeve. “Please, tell me the truth. What’s happening to my husband?”
Dr. Reynolds hesitated before replying. “We’ll need imaging — MRI scans. Whatever this is… it’s not medical. It’s deliberate.”
As they wheeled Mark down the hall, Laura’s knees gave out. Somewhere deep down, she realized — this wasn’t just a medical mystery. Someone had done this to him.
And the truth, when it came out later, was something no one in that hospital could ever forget.
