This old-fashioned casserole is comfort food at its finest — warm, cheesy, and full of rich flavor. It’s a Southern favorite that combines seasoned beef, creamy layers, and a biscuit crust that turns golden and perfect in the oven.
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
- ¾ cup water
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cups biscuit mix (like Bisquick)
- 1 cup water (for biscuit dough)
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1–1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 can diced green chilies, drained
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and drain the fat. Add taco seasoning and water, stir, and cook for 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix biscuit mix and water until soft dough forms. Press into the bottom of the baking dish, about ½ inch up the sides.
- Layer the beef mixture evenly over the crust. Add tomatoes, bell peppers, and green chilies.
- In another bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, half of the cheese, and spread it over the top.
- Sprinkle remaining cheese over the casserole.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
Serve it warm and enjoy that perfect mix of creamy, cheesy layers with a soft, savory biscuit base. One bite, and you’ll understand why people say don’t lose this recipe!
